Comments on Comments
For a while, I checked all the time to see if new comments arrived. Kind of like waiting for the phone to ring in high school. And, as then, there was no news.
Then a friend told me that she tried to leave a comment and it didn’t work. My tech-savvy husband and I realized that I’d messed something up on my Movable Type settings so that the comment thingy didn’t show up. Hooray! So, then the phone started to ring. I mean, I got a couple comments!
Then, silence.
MT is set to email me every time I get a comment. Empty inbox. No problem, I thought (trying to be cool and nonchalant). “You know”, I thought to myself, “you aren’t a very regular poster.”
So on a whim, I clicked on the “comments” category and was stunned to find not just a flood of “Via*g*ra*4*ch*ea*p”, but also a few, bona fide comments from people I really like! It’s like when that one cute boy actually asked me to dance one Friday night. (Although, unlike him, I’m sure your mothers didn’t put you up to this, right? right?)
Anyway, I did more sluething. My MT settings were right, so I asked the tech-savvy husband again. He assured me it was all my user error. Little did I know he was still searching for an answer. 15 minutes later, he leans over and says, “Huh. I guess I forgot to enable your email on Movable Type”. Aaaaah.
So, now I know when you stop by and leave a note. And at the risk of seeming like an over-eager teenager (or of sounding like Sally Field), “Um, thanks! Really – thanks!”
update:
Things are still in a bit of flux. Now my comments are all going to junk or to moderation, which isn’t even a setting I have on. Tech-savvy husband is hot on the trail!
update 2/17:
Tech-savvy husband fixed the problem. I was so overwhelmed with spam that I disabled trackbacks. If you really need a track back (never use ‘em myself…lazy old me uses permalinks..), let me know.

Sorry the e-mail isn’t working right. We’ll (I’ll) get it figured out one of these times.
