On Choice, Sex, and Sarah Palin (Or, “Putting My Foot in It”)

McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin for VP has brought many women’s issues front and center. I often avoid discussing these issues because, well, because I’m a bit chicken. Although most of my politics tend to be pretty left-wing, some of my views are not. It’s pretty much guaranteed that in this post I’ll offend everyone. Good thing I’ve worked through some of my “pleaser

I totally understand the apprehension to get into politics. It’s a public conversation I struggle with myself. Sure, I have strong opinions, beliefs, thoughts, et cetera. But do I really want the drama that can come with an exchange about politics? So, I commend you for taking a chance and sharing your thoughts. And by-the-way, I found nothing disagreeable in your post. ;-)

Here here! I couldn’t have said it better myself.

    Or maybe, “Hear hear!”?

The failure rate for vasectomies is 0.15% when instructions are followed (wikipedia). Plus, they have kids born in 89, 90, 95, 01 and 08, so it’s not like they had kids in quick order and stopped. Looking at the information at hand, my presumtption was potentially wrong, but at very least plausible.
I’d also question that if you’re not planning on having any more kids and you don’t take the steps to prevent it, is the term “unintended” appropriate?
I partially based my statements off the fact that the only couples I know in their 40′s who wanted to get pregnant needed fertility treatments to do so. Oh well. Good arguments.

“…when instructions are followed?” So if I had done heavy-lifting after my surgery I could be the father of 3 right now?

I’ll say this–if John McCain was trying to turn any attention away from himself, he sure found a way to do it!
